Nationals 2008

Hello All,

Quick update from Nationals in snowy Park City, UT. We had a great weekend beginning on Friday with a SuperTour comp on the HS134. Because of the snow and wind it was shortened to a one round competition won by Skyler Keate.

Saturday we did US Nationals on the big hill combined with the jumping portion of Nordic Combined Nationals. Anders Johnson was the champ on Saturday in Ski Jumping, congrats to Anders! Johnny won jumping portion of the NC competition but Billy was only 22 seconds behind going into the race. We headed down to Soldier Hollow for the XC portion. The conditions were challenging at Soldier Hollow as well as it started snowing hard two hours before the race but cleared up at race time. The new snow made the course soft and slow. Billy caught Johnny on second of three laps and made his move on the last lap and took the lead for good. Johnny finished second. Eric came from a disappointing jumping comp to catch his brother Brett and eventually passed him to claim third place. Brett ended up fourth and Taylor Fletcher, with the third fastest time, rounded out the top five.

We also did our first unofficial Women's Nordic Combined competition. Howard Peterson, the big boss at Soldier Hollow donated $1000 purse for the ladies. Jessica Jerome won the jumping handily and skied great to win the event. Sarah Hendrickson was second and Zoya Lynch was third. Good job ladies!

Sunday we competed in wind and snow again but the organizers did a great job to get the competition off as scheduled and despite the challenging conditions it was a good competition. Johnny Spillane claimed the small hill National Championships followed closely by Billy Demong and Anders Johnson. It was a tight competition decided in the end by style. Congrats to all three.

On another note, Alex Glueck, Alex Miller, Willy Graves, and Bryan Fletcher were in Pragelato, ITA competing in the World Cup B finals so that is why they were not at Nationals. They all had good competitions in Pragelato and are now home relaxing and getting ready for our first camp April 4-12 in Whistler, CAN.
