What more can you say about Billy Demong's season?
What a way to end it Vikersund. In the first comp he wasn't able to catch Anssi even though he and Magnus Moan were working together. At the end, Billy was able to shake Magnus and come home in second place. Eric Camerota who also jumped pretty well this weekend skied from 17th to 24th scoring more valuable WC points. Bryan Fletcher had a chance to ski into the points but after 2 crashes on a very tricky course was only able to get 48th. He was followed by Brett Camerota in 49th.
On day 2 after a pretty good jump that left Billy 1:05 behind and in 17th place, he made short work of the field and was in the lead by the 3rd lap. On the second to last climb of the day Billy and Petter Tande broke away. This surge also dropped Petter from Billy's back. Billy came home alone in first while Petter Tande and Mikko Kokslien dueled for second and third. Today was the Kong's Pokal, the King's Cup, and Billy was awarded the cup from the King of Norway in person at the finish line. Pretty cool to see!
Eric continued his steady jumping, 21st but didn't have a good enough race to stay in the points and finished 32nd. Brett and Bryan both jumped a little better but were out of the points with Brett finishing 42nd and Bryan 44th.
The season is officially over and everyone is on their way home for some much deserved R & R. We begin our preparation for next season in Whistler starting March 27th. It will most likely be the last chance to have any jumps on the 2010 Olympic jumps before the Official Olympic Training jumps next February.
On to Whistler. No Excuses.
